Static anemometer.

Built mostly for academic purposes its named after it's properties as Static anemometer.

Detects wind direction and wind speed with no moving parts.
In a very early state of development, this prototype is the latest project running on test period.

Based on calorimetric philosophy and running on BlueWire network this special anemometer is transmitting weather data over the internet through its special flash based application

Project overview

The main idea is to create a sensor that is able to detect stream direction of fluids, in this case air, with no moving parts. No bearing, no brass rings, no rotating equipment.

Lack of the above means no humidity considerations no corrosion, no moving wear.

The sensor is based in convection, one of the three ways of heat exchange.

the sensors main board

A team of 8 sensors are monitoring the energy state of a common to most of the sensors element, the result is being feed in a group of algorithms that calculate wind direction and wind speed.

For the moment the sensor is placed in a testing site collecting data on a server which is also a web server in the same time hosting a nice flash application.

The testing site topology overview is shown in the chart above.
A bluewire bus is used for communication between the sensor and the host computer in order to compensate the distance between the two items.
Condition and setup data are being exchanged beween the server and the sensor through a translation modem.
The server is hosting the configuration and data logging application of which a part screen is shown below

The live as well as the logged data are then exchanged between the appplication above and a flash application which is built as a HMI application in order to transform the collected data in a more user friendly form. Screenshot of the flash application is shown below.
